i just bought a used optima yellow top for my buick lesabre only to find out it had a striped battery terminal on the negative. (side post) i read online about dripping solder into the stripped threads and then tapping them would this work? i know its conductive but it it just as strong as the lead? is there better ways of repairing this?

You could try a threaded fastener or I have taken a small
stranded piece of wire and wound it around the thread and
threaded it back in to tighten it.I would try a fresh fastener.November 16, 2013 at 3:23 am #557109
That's not uncommon with those side terminal batteries. To be honest I'm not sure what would be the best way outside of using a larger fastener as suggested. Hopefully someone has a better suggestion. Keep us posted.

I couldn't go through the BS of having an unreliable battery, myself. I would return it for a replacement or tell em to stuff it.

The top post converters still thread into the same hole. It's likely the battery that's stripped, not your battery terminal.

this is a dual post battery so im going to get some adapters the slide onto the top posts of the battery and turn them into side posts
